Our First Day….Free Back to School Printables

Monday was the first day of school for my beautiful princess, Sabrina as it was for so many children. Surprisingly, I was very calm all weekend and really didn't stop to think much about what I would feel like on Monday. The feelings of excitement, anxiety, giddy nerves seemed to grow by the minute as I stayed up late Sunday night organizing all her supplies and gifts.

Summer was great but Sabrina was definitely ready to start school. I am starting traditions with my girls that they will cherish forever and making memories that will hopefully help them with their children one day. I also hope it will help them remember or better understand how much they mean to me and how much I adore them.

With the usual preparations of buying uniforms, school supplies and the perfect hair accessories (we recycled last years backpack because she loves it so much) came other preparations such as ensuring that Sabrina knew the obvious. Pay attention, be polite, share, speak up when you have to potty, follow directions, leave with no one but your parents, wash your hands often, etc…

Now that all the traditional and important stuff is taken care of, what can I do to help my daughter remember "Mom" and "dad" on the first day of school or the first "week' of school.

I decided that on the first day of school (again can also be the first week) I would make her favorite dinner and dessert and as a family we would discuss the day (or week) and fill out a "Back to School" memory sheet I designed. I am extremely digital in storing pictures and I have two hard drives filled with memories. But even with all the modern technology we have now at days, some things are just too precious to not print out, hand write and keep forever. I want her to have something to refer to at the end of the year, to compare with how she felt in the beginning of the year and also to see how much she has grown. It can also help those nervous nellies who always dread the first day but end up loving the days to come and school year. (Sabrina is not one of those but we all know one and my heart breaks for them and mommy or daddy dropping them off).

Here is what you will need:

Measuring tape

scale

Ink pad or marker for tracing of palm.

Make dinner, dessert, breakfast whatever meal is convenient and easy for you to sit and enjoy together. Don't forget the Memory Sheet ……

Here is what our sheet looks like, we are still working on it. Again, I know it's hard and we are all busy, I barely get to do many of the things I would love to do on a daily basis BUT, it's important to make the time to create memories and find a way to store/cherish them….

Aside from this sweet tradition, here are some of the gifts and supplies we took on our first day.

My favorite picture is this one of her on the first day of school. I took this sheet with me and most of the parents were able to photograph their kids as well. It's the smallest detail but they were all going nuts with it and I loved every minute of it.

All my lovely readers are getting free digital downloads of the entire collection. All you have to do is go to the scribd link and download.

You can take your own creation and supplies at any point in the school year, don't forget our teachers and staff are who watch over our children when we aren't present. I love them all, they truly have my heart and I know they have Sabrina's too….
